An overview of the area

According to your taste, your holidays may lead you to very different places of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur area.
The countryside around is quiet and preserved, the mountains and the (not always preserved) coast are less than one hour drive away.
A more complete information set is available in the house.
The weather forecast is: here by Meteo Direct.
In Besse Sur Issole, 15 kms away, there is a private weather station held by an amateur meteorologist. You can see there real-time measurements and historical data.

You may pinpoint the place on the Yahoo map.
The house is located 8 km from the exit 13 on A8 motorway (Le Cannet des Maures / Le Luc)
We provide more detailed directions during the reservation.

The village

Close to the house (2 km away), the Thoronet village offers common shops : bakery, grocery, pub, library, a few hotels and restaurants, a garage. The Argens river flows nearby.

The abbey, one of the most visited places in the Var department, hosts a number of cultural events, notably the sacred music festival in july.

Cyclotourism (the l'Hubac Des Maures trail passes a few hundred meters from the house), tennis, angling are a few minutes drive away.

Towns and villages from Central Var (site here)

The joint cities of Le Luc and Le Cannet des Maures are the closest of some importance and the handiest to find whatever would not be available in Le Thoronet (Chemist, general store, supermarket...).
Also in the neighbourhood : Carcès, Lorgues, very active see Lorgues Animation Culture, Flayosc, Vidauban, Entrecasteaux, Cotignac, Cabasse, Taradeau, Les Arcs, Draguignan, all have something for you.

The closest train station is in "Les Arcs" around 25 km, 30 mn from the house (watch out for the jam in Vidauban, though). This station is the main stop for TGV in Centre-Var. (French railways)
You could also take an old train through Centre-Var, from Carnoules to Brignoles. This typical commuter train is being kept in service order by a group of railway lovers.

The area is mostly rural, wine growing is the dominant activity; many wine cellars can be visited (booking is sometimes required). Rosé wine is best known, but some reds are worth it as well.
